This is a great find, straight out of the Wild West era. I categorize this as a museum hat. Made by a company named Fisk who started in 1853, based in Chicago, Paris and New York. If you do a little research, the turn of the century was the end of the Victorian Era (about 1837-1901), which was also named the American Wild West, during the reign of Queen Victoria before her passing in 1901, which subsequently ended the Victorian Era. The fashion then for women included "steampunk", which I think is fabulous. This hat is a testament to that style. It has a wire brim, which has a fine, sheer netting that has since tattered. The wiring is all intact, so this shouldn't be hard to replace. The feathers are ostrich, the hat itself is black velvet. A few spots on the top where the velvet is worn away, minor really. Overall, this is a fantastic hat, I love it!! Email me if you need more photos or specific measurements.
